Cupe Local 2816 was established in 1985 by Romeo Best and John Vanelli. The formation of this local was to:
- Strengthen, improve and solidify the economic and social welfare of its’ membership.
- Promote equality for all members and to oppose all types of harassment and discrimination.
- Promote the efficiency of public services; and
- Express its belief in the unity of organized labor.
The union’s role is to represent all of its’ members without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, color and creed. The union gives the workers power to negotiate for better wages, benefits and better working conditions through collective bargaining.
The strength of the local is dependent upon the collective voices of all of its’ members and the willingness to stand united for future employees who will come after.
