What we do

WE FIGHT, WE STAY STRONG, WE UNITE , WE ARE THE COLLECTIVE VOICES OF CUPE LOCAL 2816

Local 2816 was founded and established on August 8, 1985, over 32 years ago by John Vanelli and Romeo Best. They paved the way for us to have security and strong democratic rights within our working environment and as time moves forward our local collectively will continue to negotiate for the rights of our members in a fair, democratic and comprehensive way.

CUPE Local 2816 has over 600+ members that represents the full-time and part-time support services (Housekeeping, Food Services, Plant Operations, Building Operators, Trades, Transport/Linen, Stores and Receiving Porters, Central Processing, Operating Room Attendants, POCU Attendants, Medical Device Re-processors, Licensed Refrigeration Mechanics, Pharmacy Stores Associates) of The Hospital for Sick Kids located in the heart of Metropolitan Toronto. We the members are committed and passionate about the quality of care that we administer to the hospital setting.

The union as a collective voice stands strong against unfair treatment of its’ workers, speaks on behalf  of members with regards to healthcare issues, their rights as employees of two collective bargaining units and has sworn to give the members strong and fair representation whenever needed.

The goal of  our local is to improve and strengthen our commitment to each other, to the social and economic well being of our members, to truth, integrity and transparency in order to continue to build and promote a strong, efficient and united membership.
